If water is pouring out right now
This is the one time we will ask you to do something before we get there, and it is a single step.
Turn the water off at the meter. In Harrisdale the meter is almost always at the front boundary, near the verge, under a small cover. There is a tap beside it. Turn it clockwise until it stops. That isolates the whole property and stops the damage while you wait.
If the water is coming from the hot water unit specifically, the isolation valve on the cold pipe feeding the unit does the same job without cutting water to the rest of the house.
Then ring us.
Our hours, plainly
Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm. We do not run after-hours, overnight or weekend callouts, and we would rather say that on the page than have you find out at nine on a Saturday night.
Inside those hours we respond quickly — that is one of the five things this business promises and it is one we can keep. Outside them, turning the water off at the meter is what protects the house until we can get there. Send the form or leave a message and you are first in the queue when we start.
What we treat as urgent
A burst or split pipe
Anything actively running. Under a slab, in a wall, in the ceiling, or out in the yard.
A failed service line
The run between your meter and the house. When this one goes it can flood a front lawn or undermine a driveway without a drop appearing inside.
Water coming through a ceiling
Usually a pipe in the roof space or a failed connection above a wet area. This one matters because of what is above it and what it is soaking into.
A leaking hot water unit

Why burst pipes happen in a suburb this new
It surprises people. Harrisdale homes are young — the suburb was gazetted in 2007 and the main estate started construction in July 2010 — so the instinct is that nothing should be failing yet.
But a burst is not always about age. On original pipework the common causes are mechanical rather than corrosion:
Damage during construction
A pipe clipped by another trade during the build holds fine at first. The weakened point sits under mains pressure for years and then goes.
Joints that were marginal from day one
A fitting a fraction under-tightened does not leak immediately. It seeps, then it weeps, then it lets go.
Movement
Ground movement and settling around a newer slab puts load on pipework that was installed dead straight.
Pressure
Mains pressure is constant, day and night, whether the house is occupied or empty. Anything marginal gets tested continuously.
None of that is unusual. It is simply what failure looks like in housing stock that has not yet reached its first replacement cycle.
What we do when we get there
Stop it first
Isolate the section, or the property, so nothing else gets wet.
Find exactly where it failed
On a visible burst that is quick. On one inside a wall or under a slab it is a detection job, and we do that before opening anything up rather than after. How leak detection works

Even in a hurry, you get the price before the repair starts. No call-out fee, no hidden costs added at the end.
Repair and retest
The repaired section goes back under pressure and is proven to hold before we leave.
What we cannot do
We are plumbers and gas fitters, not a restoration company. We stop the water and repair the plumbing. Drying out carpet, replacing gyprock and dealing with your insurer are separate trades, and we will say so rather than quote for work we do not do.
What we can give you is a clear account of what failed and where, which is usually what an insurer asks for first.
